This is a basic level course designed for law enforcement and corrections personnel, mental health professionals, supervisors / team leaders and commanders who are assigned to, work with, or oversee the functions of a crisis/hostage negotiations team. This course is also appropriate for law enforcement and corrections personnel who aspire to join a crisis/hostage negotiations team. This curriculum is designed to meet the standards set forth by the National Council of Negotiations Associations for a basic course of study for police crisis/hostage negotiators. Although it is a “basic” course, it represents a robust and comprehensive view of the most likely negotiation problems and best techniques to resolve them peacefully. It is suitable for experienced negotiators desiring a refresher course.
NOTE: Students will participate in group discussions and produce written documents to enhance team preparedness. A comprehensive array of topics will be discussed including improving the structure and delivery of training, maximizing training hours, methods to incorporate SWAT into large scale planned operations, problem-solving methods and analytical thinking, organizational leadership, trust, and much more. Overall discussions will aid students in their role as leaders within their units and agencies.
NOTE: This class includes intensive academic and theoretical components. Students will conduct research, participate in analytical discussions, and produce written documents to enhance team preparedness. This version of SWAT Command Decision-Making and Leadership II is conducted entirely online through a live instructor-led process. Students will need a computer or tablet with webcam and microphone capabilities in order to participate in this course.

Online: SWAT Team Leader Development
5 DAYS
This course is a virtual course that is instructor-led over 5 days.
This entire course is conducted online via Zoom and covers the same material as the residency version. This course is designed for law enforcement personnel who are responsible for deploying in the capacity as a SWAT Team Leader or as a supervisor who is responsible for the training and deployment of tactical teams. The focus of this training will be on pre-incident training, planning, organizing, and the tactical decision-making process used in the resolution of high-risk operations. Also included in the curriculum is an overview of SWAT training topics including selection and testing, training issues and liability, national SWAT standards and critical incident reviews. Practical applications will consist of scouting and planning warrants, small team planning, tactics used in the resolution of critical incidents, and the review of tactical incidents and videos. Attendees will participate in-group discussions, write operations orders, and develop training plans, plus critique and evaluate tactics and decisions based on a principle based SWAT decision-making process.

A three-day course designed to provide SWAT Team leaders and trainers with the ability to design, plan and prepare proactive training guidelines, manuals, events, calendars and support documents in order to best utilize limited training time and opportunities in order to produce the highest quality personnel and team capability; and to provide SWAT Team leaders and trainers with proven risk mitigation methodologies to counter risk within the three main risk areas for SWAT Teams, i.e. legal, training and operations.
