This one-hour webinar is designed for all Tactical Officers, focusing on three key training concepts that, when applied, have been shown to improve skills and decision-making on the street. The three main concepts are:
• Spaced Practice – Doing, “A Little, A Lot.” Even just 10 minutes a day can be effective.
• Law of Specificity – Increasing the transfer of training to real-world situations.
• The ‘Learning Zone’ – Understanding how to wisely manipulate pressure and view errors.
Jeff will discuss the development of his instructional approach, which he calls Training On Purpose, By Design. This method is based on the science of skill acquisition and decision-making, symbolizing the ‘Art of Application’ to research. He will share examples from his work with Tactical Teams and Military Units that have adopted these techniques and explain how any officer can maximize the usefulness of their time spent on physical and decision training to improve transfer to the street.
By applying more deliberate practice—focused on appropriate challenge levels, making training relevant to real situations, avoiding unintentional negative associations during practice, and adding pressure and desirable difficulties—Tactical Officers will learn how to better manage their own learning, growth, confidence, and competence.
Join us to explore how to use the science behind skill acquisition to train more effective skills intentionally and purposefully.
