WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Personnel who are assigned to respond to and resolve hostage rescue incidents. This course meets the NTOA’s Tactical Response and Operations Standard (TROS) Tier status capability requirement recommendation for Hostage Rescue Operations.
This course is designed to train personnel assigned to SWAT teams with specific skills related to hostage rescue operations. It includes instruction on entry tactics and principles relevant to hostage rescue, patrol rapid deployment in crisis situations, emergency entry methods, procedures for tactical operations centers, and span of control during hostage rescue missions. The curriculum also provides an overview of crisis negotiation techniques and focuses on evaluating the tactical environment to select the most appropriate course of action. Legal aspects concerning use of force in hostage rescue scenarios are covered, including sniper-initiated rescues, challenges in structure rescues, and vehicle rescue operations. Furthermore, the course emphasizes the manpower-intensive demands of deliberate hostage rescue missions and aims to enhance understanding of both individual and team strengths and limitations.
