Incident Debrief: Webster City, Iowa Hostage Rescue

On March 16, 2020, members of the Iowa State Patrol Tactical Team responded to a hostage situation involving an adult female who was being held hostage inside a house with an armed suspect. The Iowa State Patrol's Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team utilized different strategies and tactics during the nearly four-hour hostage situation. Ultimately the situation was resolved after a command-initiated hostage rescue, with the adult female being rescued unharmed.

Tyrel Williamson - Bio
Trooper Tyrel Williamson currently serves with the Iowa State Patrol. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps infantry from 2000-2004 with multiple deployments in support of the War on Terrorism. He joined the Iowa State Patrol in 2007 and was selected to join the Iowa State Patrol Tactical Team in 2009. Williamson is an instructor in firearms, tactical medicine and ALERRT. He is also a field training officer and Glock/rifle armorer.

Jeremy Schaffer - Bio
Sgt. Jeremy Schaffer currently serves with the Iowa State Patrol. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, both active duty and reserve, from 1997-2007 and has deployed to Iraq in support of the War on Terrorism. He began his career in law enforcement in 2005 with the Creston Police Department. He joined the Iowa State Patrol in 2007 and was selected to join the Iowa State Patrol Tactical Team in 2009. Sgt. Schaffer is an instructor in firearms, defensive tactics, less lethal munitions, tactical medicine, VCQB, MACTAC and ALERRT. He is also a Glock and AR-15 Armorer and WMD team member and currently serves as the assistant team leader for the Area's Tactical Team.
