Incident Debrief: Bank Hostage Incident

On January 3, 2020, the local police responded to an armed male subject at the Heritage Credit Union in Rockford, IL. The subject, a paranoid schizophrenic with an outstanding arrest warrant, demanded everyone leave the credit union except for one female branch manager which he took hostage. He showed her a handgun. The subject demanded to have the FBI respond and speak with him. This presentation is conducted by the FBI on-scene negotiator who spoke with the suspect and the victim for several hours. Lessons learned, challenges faced, and the details of the incident will be covered in detail.

Casey Solana - Bio
Special Agent Casey Solana has served with the FBI since 1997. He served in the Pittsburgh field office until 2000 and has been assigned to the Rockford, IL field office since then. Casey has been a member of the Chicago FBI Crisis Negotiation Team since 2006. Casey is a graduate of northern Illinois University and he served in the United States Marine Corp from 1987 to 1991 and is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War.
