On April 7, 2018 officers responded to a disturbance at a residence. A male suspect was inside threatening to kill his 3- and 5-year-old children and burn the house down. Officers made contact by voice with the suspect who barricaded the residence and threatened to shoot the officers. Sgt. Matt Balthazor will debrief this incident, which will include axon body-worn camera video and audio of negotiations.

Sgt. Matt Balthazor is a 15-year veteran with the Wichita Police Department. He is currently assigned as a Patrol Sergeant in the Patrol West Bureau. He has served in patrol, SCAT Team (Gang, Drug, and Violent Crime Task Force), Domestic Violence/Sex Crimes and Gang Unit as a detective. Balthazor is currently assigned to the Wichita Police Department/Sedgwick County Sheriff SWAT Team as a Crisis Negotiator. He has served as a primary negotiator on barricaded individuals, SWAT warrants for wanted violent individuals, suicidal individuals, and face-to-face negotiations.
