Shane Rogers - Bio
Detective Shane Rogers (Ret.) joined the NYPD in 2002, carrying forward a proud legacy as a fifth-generation police officer. With over 20 years of distinguished service with the New York City Police Department (NYPD), he has become a recognized subject-matter expert in resiliency and peer support for crisis and hostage negotiators. Throughout his career, Det. Rogers held numerous key roles, including: Negotiator and trainer, NYPD Hostage Negotiation Team Training Coordinator, NYPD Employee Assistance Unit Co-Lead Instructor, Peer Support Member Training Peer Counselor, NYPD Employee Assistance Unit Instructor, Crisis Intervention Team Training Special Projects Unit, Deputy Commissioner of Training His extensive experience in crisis negotiation and peer support has shaped his mission to strengthen the mental health and resiliency of first responders. Since retiring from the NYPD, Det. Rogers has dedicated himself to speaking and training engagements across North America. He has worked with fire services, police agencies, and corrections professionals, sharing his firsthand account of life as a first responder and crisis/hostage negotiator. His presentations explore the realities of call-outs, preparation, self-care, work-life balance, and the importance of asking for help.
