The case study of this incident occurred at Fort Wayne International Airport. The challenging incident involved a suicidal teenager who was armed with a handgun. The case study will focus on the importance of early and effective use of active listening skills, remembering the basics of negotiations, and will explore missed opportunities as a negotiator.

Sgt. Terry Holmes has been a member of the Fort Wayne Police Department since 1994. During that time, he has worked in the Detective Bureau, Robbery/Homicide Unit. He joined the Fort Wayne Police Department's Crisis Response Team (CRT) in 2013 and became the CRT Assistant Team Commander in 2022. In 2024, Sgt. Holmes attended the FBI National Crisis Negotiation Course in Quantico, Virginia. He is currently assigned as a patrol supervisor on first shift in the Northeast Division.
