This debrief examines a 9.5-hour standoff that began at 10:00 p.m. on November 10, 2020, and continued into the early morning hours. The incident involved a mentally impaired subject who believed the country was without leadership following the 2020 presidential election. The subject held his girlfriend hostage and was armed with a pistol, assault rifle, knives, and a Kevlar vest and helmet.

Prior to negotiations, the subject discharged his weapon and threatened to kill responding officers outside the residence. The presentation includes body-worn camera footage, recorded communications, a TPI, and negotiations conducted via text messaging.

Master Officer Danny Jackson joined the James City County Police Department in 2006. In 2014 he joined the crisis negotiations team. He became the training coordinator in 2016 and the deputy commander in 2018, a position he still holds. Jackson earned a bachelor of science from Old Dominion University and is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
