Lt. Commander Matt Hardesty I have been in law enforcement for 36 years and am coming to the end of my career. I am a lieutenant with the Seminole County Sheriffs Office, and I retired as the SWAT Team Commander a few years ago after accumulating over 25 years of tactical team experience. Like most, I worked my way through the ranks of the team, never thinking I would eventually be the Team Commander, but I still feel honored and privileged to have led such dedicated men and women. I command the Domestic Security Division at the Sheriffs Office, leading a Counter Terrorism Unit, Fugitive Apprehension Unit, Crime Analyst Units, and a Gang/Street Crime Unit. I have been one of your Eastern Directors for a few years now, and hopefully, I have met, helped, or trained you during this time. As a senior member of law enforcement, I have seen tremendous changes facing law enforcement, causing teams to struggle with recruitment, retention, and training. In my last term, I would like to see the NTOA push for federally funded regional training locations for SWAT Teams to receive NTOA training or other qualified training at low or no cost. I would also push for the NTOA to take the next step with our Tactical Response and Operations Standards and develop a meaningful accreditation program for SWAT Teams that would assist with developing their Leadership, Training Program and Administration. |
