This entire course is conducted online via Zoom.This certification course is designed to provide corrections officers and supervisors with a deeper understanding of force and its many related issues in a correctional setting. In-depth knowledge of the justification, legal background and support, and case laws that govern the use of force will be provided. Tactical decision-making, safety priorities, officer created jeopardy, and associated examples are discussed.
An introduction to emotional intelligence will focus on the impact of emotional control on decision-making, complaints, officer stress, and de-escalation. The importance of emotional intelligence within teams and units is also emphasized.
Post-incident responsibilities, including documentation, are critical to the success of operations and will be emphasized. This course is interactive and will consist of breakout discussions. Incident debriefs, and analysis, and real-life examples and scenarios are provided. It is designed around the concept of risk mitigation. All associated learning concepts are built around the goal of reducing risk to individuals and agencies.
Note: Students must successfully complete a final exam demonstrating understanding and
